The ultimate taste test – samples!

Knowing which diet to choose for your dog can be a daunting process, as every dog is wonderfully unique and what suits one dog may not suit another. For example, some dogs may prefer a larger bite size, others may prefer fish over chicken, while others may be swayed over the shape of the kibble itself. Whatever their needs, we have a range of samples available, to help you find the right diet for them.
How big are Skinner’s samples?
Our samples are 150g per pouch and are available in every Skinner’s dry food flavour. These handy bags are a convenient size for providing your dog with a “taste-test” before trying a larger bag of food. In addition, each sample bag provides detailed information about the diet’s ingredients, analytical constituents (protein, fat, fibre and ash), as well as the type of dog it’s been formulated for.
How can I introduce a sample?
You have the freedom to be creative when introducing a sample! For example, you could use the samples as training treats and see which diet your dog responds best to. In addition, you could try scatter feeding them around the kitchen floor and seeing which diet your dog gravitates more towards. Or alternatively, you could try popping some kibbles from two different diets in two different bowls and seeing which bowl your dog heads to first.

What’s next after introducing a sample?
Once you are happy your dog has enjoyed the sample, you may consider a 2.5kg bag of food as the next step. These bags are a good “stepping-stone” before trying a larger bag and can be used to gradually introduce your dog to the new diet over a period of 7-10 days. After the initial transition process, if you are satisfied with the diet, then you may consider a 15kg bag as your next choice.
