Superfoods

What are superfoods?

A superfood is defined as an ingredient which offers a high level of useful nutrients and can help to support overall health. The benefits of these superfoods can vary depending on what the ingredient is, for example some offer antioxidant benefits while others offer benefits for digestive health. Ingredients often regarded as superfoods include salmon, broccoli and blueberries as they provide a good source of nutrients such as fatty acids, fibre and antioxidants.

How do they support your dog?

As mentioned above, superfoods can have a whole range of different benefits for your dog when included in their diet. These ingredients can help to support immune health, provide a source of essential vitamins and minerals, support digestive function, and help with joint integrity (just to name a few benefits!). When included in our recipes, these superfoods help to contribute towards our delicious and nutritionally complete diets by ensuring they provide all the right nutrients your dog needs.

Superfoods in the new GOAG range

Treats and recovery bar

Our new Get Out & Go! range uses only the best ingredients for your dog. Firstly you’ll notice fruits such as blueberries, banana, mango and apple in our recovery bar, as these fruits naturally contain antioxidants which can help protect against the effects of oxidative damage in the body. In addition, you may have seen our delicious Training Time dog treats contain both salmon meal and salmon oil. Salmon is often regarded as a superfood as it provides a good source of essential omega-3 fatty acids, which can help to support coat, skin and cognitive health. Furthermore, these fatty acids are essential, as they can’t be made in the body so must be supplied in the diet.

Dry diets

Our dry diets provide a good source of highly digestible chicken, which not only provides protein for growth and repair, but also omega-6 fatty acids which can promote skin and coat health, as well as normal growth and immune function. Furthermore we have also used sweet potatoes that naturally contain beta-carotene, which is the precursor for vitamin A- a vitamin needed for healthy vision, coat and skin, as well as immune function. We have also included other well-known superfoods like cranberries and blueberries.

Wet food

Our new range of wet diets use nutritious ingredients like green beans and spinach in the recipe which provides a source of fibre for digestive health, as well as important minerals like iron and magnesium. Not only this but our recipe uses delicious vegetables like carrots which provide a  source of fibre to support healthy digestion, as well as beta-carotene, which as we know is the precursor for vitamin A. Last (but not least!) we have included seaweed in our wet formulations which supplies minerals including calcium, iodine and iron, which are needed for normal development and functioning of the body.
