Best National Parks for your pooch

We our so fortunate to be surrounded by beautiful walks. The UK is home to 15 National Parks, meaning that wherever you are in the country, you can be sure that to have a National park relatively close to you. To celebrate it being National Park Week this week, we thought we could give you our top 3 National Parks that you and your pooch can go and explore!

1. South Downs National Park

South Downs National Park contains more routes than any other National park in the UK. In fact, it contains 3,300km of footpaths, bridleways and byways. Complete with rolling hills, river valleys, beautiful heathland, stunning woodland villages, towns and the iconic white cliffs of the Heritage Coast, this makes the perfect place to explore with your pooch!

2. Cairngorms National Park

With a huge variety of walks for you and your four-legged friend you can do short walks around villages and towns or routes through the hills. There is even the option of walking along the heritage trails which contain stories about the history of the land. You are bound to find something that suits both you and your dog here. Remember to keep them on a short lead from April to August or close to heel in areas of ground nesting birds.

3. North York Moors National Park

The Nork York Moors are every welcoming of dogs. Although dogs are not allowed on most moorland Open Access land, there are some fantastic forest and beach walks for you and your dog. A great one to do is May Beck and Falling Floss. You must keep your dog on a short lead here, but this 2-mile walk covers a woodland walk past the 30 foot Falling Foss waterfall! If this isn’t for you, there are plenty of dog-friendly pubs along with beaches where dogs are allowed all year round!Remember, dogs are allowed on National Parkland, however they should be kept close by, under control and in sight; in some areas you may be required to keep your dog on a lead. Remember to also clear up after your dog, and respect wildlife and livestock.

What are you waiting for? Go and explore a National Park with your pooch!
